King of the Mountain

Eeesh... Alright, alright, I'm not going to make any excuses. carlnosek.com
has been dead in the water for quite an extended time. Excuses are plenty
(blogger.com making it even more difficult to upload pictures, busy with
work, etc...) but whatever. Anyhoodle, I bought a new computer so thought
I'd put it through its paces and type out some posts.

Sometime after Christmas of 2005 I went with a crew of people up to Tahoe
for a ski weekend.

Chris' frosty goatee (or is it a van dyke?) set the bar in terms of manliness.

We ended up skiing at Heavenly. The more advanced skiers in the group
say that it doesn't offer up the best in terrain, but I have entered the
phase in my skiing career where I like nice gentle runs with no rocks
and/or cliffs. I also no longer go as straight and fast down the slope as
possible because I have now discovered that it hurts when you wipe out.
... I really am becoming an old man.

Anyway, the scenery at Heavenly can't be beat. You get great views
of Lake Tahoe on the California side of the mountain and expansive
views of the desert on the Nevada side. I have better scenery pictures
from a more recent trip that, at the rate I'm posting, should make it onto
this site in the next 12-24 months.

Henry and Deb bundled up to the point of unrecognizability.

After a day of skiing we piled into the Carpentermoblie and headed to
the casinos in South Lake Tahoe. Here I bust out a classic Cold Lampin'
pose as Chris and Deb offer support and the peanut gallery in the back
seat cheers in admiration.

Chris and Adam deserve a thumbs up in my book.

It's amazing that Heath, despite sporting a molester-mustache and a blaze
orange stocking cap, still gets the love from Kirsten and Liana.

Here's the whole gang taking an illegal photo in the lobby of Bill's Casino.

I broke even on the blackjack tables... after which we headed back home
(to Heath's in-laws condo in S. Lake Tahoe.)

Beers began to flow, and Heath started to deal out a vicious game of
Egyptian RatScrew.

Things started out peacefully...

... but madness...

...and at least one fist-fight ensued.

We got dumped on with about 2 feet of the most incredible powder while
we were there. It made skiing great and the ride home a little harrowing...

... but still pretty beautiful.
