God Bless My Family... (and America)
My last few days back in Wisco (over 4th of July weekend) I headed back to my hometown in Whitewater. There I got to spend time with The Fam. Here are a few choice moments...

Jane = Best... Dog... Ever.

So every year, the city of Whitewater has a 4th of July parade. The majority of the entrants in the parade are firetrucks, tractors, large obnoxiously loud semis, and people mounted on horseback. This basically boils down to lots of exhaust, horns, and horse crap.
The highlights each year, however, include the kid's bike decoration contestants and the annual Nosek family entry. Ever since we were little kids we had some sort of gig for the parade. It was usually dreamt up by my dad, and often included costumes, stunts, and general mayhem. While we kids have grown out of the parade phase, my dad still hammers away at it. He has become kind of a Whitewater 4th of July institution, and whenever I'm back home in the summer, people always ask what he has dreamt up for this year. I have to admit, his costumes usually are pretty awesome. Anyway, this year he dreamt up an Uncle Sam that stretches back and forth like an accordion (!?!)

That's my father (and my brother's legs in back.)

Somehow Dad scored this completely sweet goatee. Still under review by the governing council, this picture may qualify as my father's first foray into the world of Cold Lampin'. I think the pose should count as official (I mean, come on, the goatee alone should count for something.)

Post parade Joe, Ellen, Taryn and I went to see the Hometown Sweethearts play at the Crystal Corner Bar.

Dancing (and sneezing?) naturally ensued...

... and a proud family moment occured when Little Sister stepped up to the mic (with support from Carrie) to sing the background vocals to "Move Your Feet" by Junior Senior.

The two of them totally belted it out and sent the crowd into a tizzy.

Ellen... we're all so proud.
Perusing this post (and paging back through the archives) I have to admit that this blog doesn't present my family in the most flattering light. Expandable Uncle Sams... plumber's crack poses... robot bands... bootleg vodka... It doesn't paint the most attractive (or realistic) portrait of the family Nosek. We're actually pretty normal.

To balance out all that's come before, here's a picture of the whole crew doing their part to look respectable.
It does kind of look like Joe is loading his drawers, though.
